Summer Tea Party: Easy Orange Biscuit Recipe

If you’re a supporter of GAIN and share our passion to spread the word and raise awareness of Guillain-Barré syndrome, then we hope your preparations for a tea party are in full swing. To help you along the way, we’ve been publishing a series of recipes for tasty treats that are sure to go down a storm with your guests, whether they are grown ups or children. Here’s another one. This time for a scrummy crumbly orange biscuit that’s really quick and simple to make.

Ingredients

This should be enough to make 16 biscuits.

125g self-raising flour
100g butter
50g caster sugar
Zest of an orange

Method

  1. Put all the ingredients into a mixing bowl and rub them together until they’ve combined to form a doughy mixture.
  2. Roll the dough into a long sausage.
  3. Cut the length into 16 equal pieces and roll them into balls.
  4. Put the balls on to a greased baking tray and press gently with the back of a fork.
  5. Bake at 180C/350F/gas mark 4 for 10 minutes or until lightly golden.
  6. Sprinkle with caster sugar and allow them to cool slightly before lifting on to a cooling rack.

Fun(d) raising ideas

We want your tea party to be memorable – if your guests have fun, hopefully they’ll tell others about it and it will prompt them to spread the word about Guillain-Barré syndrome. We also want to use the opportunity to do some fund raising. What better way to combine the two aims than to organise some activities to keep your guests amused?

Here are another couple of ideas from us that your young and young-at-heart guests are sure to enjoy.

Bottle tombola – Ask your guests to bring a bottle and run a bottle tombola. The bottles can contain anything, from bubble bath and washing up liquid, to sauce and pickle, and of course beer and champagne.

Draw straws – stick straws (or sticks) in a tray of sand and attach labels to their bottom naming a prize. This could be sweets, money, small toys, a cup of tea, a biscuit or anything else you think your guests might like.
